From Ireland about 1855 John Stone of Massachusetts brought  to SC a mix of chickens that made gamecock history. Their victories in mains from Columbia to North Augusta and Edgefield are legendary.  Information is a little fuzzy as to exactly what breeds they were but most  say they were either all or part Claiborne, Dundon, Derby, and Irish Brown-Red . Some were toppy tasseled, some were dark faced, single comb, and all had mottled or moccasin feet . Many of these fowl went on to be bred by others around the country under the names of: Sherron, Bacon, Fannie Carter, Hopkinson and Hoover. My stock came from Edgefield county many years ago so the most accurate name is John Stone Warhorse.
